VNC is cool, but...
You really need to wrap in in some sort of secure tunnel, or it's pretty insecure.
It's not too efficient in bandwidth compression, and tends to be pretty poky.
On the other hand, it's the only tool I know of that's pretty much available on every platform and cross-platform compatible.
