Barbara Gittings, 1932-2007

Every year we loose more and more of our history, and this feels especially sad in the GLBT community, where so many of our older activists were pioneers in the days when being identified as Gay or Lesbian (not to mentioned Trans!) could result in discrimination and loss.

On Sunday we lost Barbara Gittings, founder of the Daughters of Bilitis, the first lesbian organization.

It's a shame we don't hear more about the loss of such cultural icons within our own respective "community." Thanks.

There's an excellent book that references her quite a bit here (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0226771792).
