What shall I wear!

Our washing machine has been out since last week. Our dirty laundry pile is growing. We finally managed to call a washer repair company yesterday, and now I'm sitting at home babysitting the repair man.

Doh! He reports that the motor and control board are bad. He reported that with parts and labor, it would cost over $500 to repair the washer.

I guess this means I'm not doing laundry at home this weekend.

I think that means it's time to buy a new washer.

Yikes. You can buy a new washer for that. I have Home Service Plus from CenttrePoint Energy (Minnegasco). For I think $30 per month it covers the central air, boiler, refrigerator, freezer, gas range, washer, dryer, main sewer drain and water heater. It covers service calls and parts. THeir really responsive and I've had the main drain snaked out, the central air unit cleaned and repaired and the fridge repaired twice with no charges at all. It might be worth looking into.

I saw the Service Plus advertised on their website...nice to know someone that likes it!

It's been good for us and one thing that I've liked is that I've never felt like I was a "second class" customer because it was "free" service. They consider service on fridges and heaters and eather heaters as emergencies and provide Saturday and Sunday repairs at no extra charge. I figure I've gotten my money's worth out of it. It also makes the decision of who to call easy to do :-)

We used to have the Home Service Plus plan on the old house, but we never set it up on the new house. Joe did call to set it up, but he accidently mentioned that the washer was broken, so it became a "pre-existing condition." Doh.

ACK! The whole pre-existing condition thing sucks. If you find yourself in the market for a new washer, we love our LG front loader. We got the middle of the road model and I think it was around $750.

A good place to look for deals too is Appliance Smart. They sell discontinued and scratch and dent stuff for substantial discounts. There's one in St Louis Park on Excelsior between 100 and 169. I got my stove and we got a dryer for Erik's house both from there. They all still have their warranties and many of the doscontinued ones are still in boxes.

I have Service Plus, too, but didn't know it covered sewer drains. I just had ours snaked out yesterday, too, and it was expensive.

I think it's an optional coverage but it's only like $3 or $4 a month. It was srth it to me when they gave me the "bill" and I owed nothing. They did same day service too.

Holy cow... When my dryer quit, I ended up buying a 2-year old washer/dryer set on Craigslist for $150. They work great! Although, now that I'm about to become a homeowner, I'm sure I'll be more picky...but it might even be a resource for parts and repair!

That's pretty much new washer time. Although I think that a good one will cost you more than $500. I'm still very pleased with our new washer and dryer.

Hello Mom and Dad!

I guess you could always go back to home and do your laundry there...

Andrew, you can come home and do your laundry here. And while you're here you can help me with my computer and Fotki settings.
