Motherfrakker!
Mar. 30th, 2006 03:49 pmOk... so on Battlestar Galactica they appear to use all of our English words and pretty much wear the same cloths we do. Why then do they have different swear words? Instead of saying "fuck," they always say "frak."
Granted, this is a carry over of "frack" from the classic Battlestar Galactica series which wasn't so similar to modern Earth culture. They tried to be all sci-fi with their clothing and such. Classic BSG also had "felgercarb," which appears to be comparable to "bullshit."
I know its stupid, but I occasionally find myself substituting fictional expletives into my speech. Frak! Frell! (from Farscape) Smeg! (from Red Dwarf). Though I never picked up Farscape's "dren."
There is a nice list of fictional expletives on Wikipedia.
I like this listing from the Wikipedia entry:
bleep - from Larry Niven's Known Space stories; the bleep used to censor profanity eventually turned into a swearword itself.
