I've been debating if I should stop collecting comics or not. Well, the argument for stopping got a little help today when my comic shop, Hot Comics, told me that they are no longer giving discounts to subscribers. Actually, they stopped at the beginning of the year, but they didn't bother to tell me. I've only been shopping there for nearly 10 years.

Can anyone tell me if any other local comic shops are still offering discounts to subscribers? Is this a complete industry trend?

I think I'll wrap up a few of the limited series I'm collecting and call it quits.

Should I stop collecting comics?

Maybe I could just subscribe to Marvel's Digital Comics Unlimited service, and just read the comics online. I can't tell if this includes new comics or not, but it only costs $4.99 a month (if you pay the $59.88 annual cost up front).

Does DC have anything similar?

This does kind of break my heart a bit... but I really do read comics just for the stories. I don't care as much about collecting the comics, but at the same time I realize that what I'm buying has potential value so I shouldn't just throw them away. I have so many boxes of comics, and it just grows every year.

Then I can go out and buy the trades for the series that I want to have a physical copy off.

Am I being a bad comic fan?

Edit: I found one review that states that only comics that are more than six weeks old will be placed on Marvel's site. The article also wisely recommends to get the monthly subscription rate first before committing to the annual rate.
