Weekend progress
Apr. 24th, 2006 09:34 amI think we got a lot done this weekend. We are still weeks away from being ready to move, but progress has been made. Of course, now the house looks more messy than ever.
Late Saturday afternoon I raked up all the leaves in the back and side yards. Now they are all bagged up and waiting to be taken to the curb on Tuesday night.
We started going through the stuff in the collection/junk room on Sunday. We threw away at least two bags of papers and such, and we have a box of books waiting to be taken over to Half Price Books.
Sunday night we went to Home Depot and looked at grass seed and such, so now we're ready to tackle the lawn this week. I don't know how much it will help, but we didn't spend to much money.
How could I miss the dance hall?!?!
Apr. 24th, 2006 09:36 amI had the strangest dream last night.
I can't remember all of it, but I remember walking through our new house and realizing that we hand't explored all of the house before buying it. I don't think this house had the second floor that the real house does, but we found a bunch of bedrooms on the main floor on the north side of the house. Then we explored the south side of the house (where in reality the garage is) and found a HUGE unfinished room that was probably triple the size of the actual house. We didn't really explore this room, but I could see some other rooms connected to it, and I think there was a lower level below this room. It felt like the room was near the ocean.
Beyond that huge room was a long walk bridge that connect our house with a health club. The bridge was over ocean water, and I couldn't see other house from the bridge.

At some point I walk up, still remembering the dream, and I struggled to reconcile my real memories with my dream. Yes, there is a second floor. No, we didn't miss any huge hidden rooms. There is no ocean near the house, not even a lake.
I can recall a handful of other times in my life when I've had house dreams. And I think they all involved hidden rooms and exploration. The first time was when I was 13 or 14. I remember exploring my friend Mark's house and finding hidden padded rooms. Maybe I thought Mark was crazy. I don't specifically recall the other house dreams right now.
Planning my entertainment
Apr. 24th, 2006 11:02 amI'm trying to figure out what to do for our tv provider in the new house. Cable (Time Warner for now, area is switching to Comcast later this year) or Satellite (probably Dish Network).
The tricky part is that I was to have good HDTV DVR functionality.
I really wish that the Tivo Series 3 would hurry up and come out! I think that it will have all the functionality that I want.
I still haven't had a chance to meet with the house seller to really examine how he has everything wired in the house. He has TV's everywhere where I would put them, I'm just not sure how they are wired. He currently has Dish Network, and stores all the receives in the basement, with lines running up to the TVs. The difference is that only the basement TV (in the home theater) is HD.
Edit:
I was just looking at the possibility of just creating our own DVR solution using a PC, but there are no PC tuner cards that can handle HD content from cable or satellite, only over the air (OTA) HD signals. By the end of this year, there will be Windows Media Centers with Cable Card capabilies, but only on special approved machines.

37 days until move
Apr. 24th, 2006 11:36 pmMade more progress tonight. Joe and I went through the books on the bookshelf in the collection room (there are many more books other places in the house) and we managed to pick a small pile to go to Dreamhaven or Half Priced Books.
Once we finished with the books, I tackled my supply cabinet. This is the cabinet that was originally intended to hold office supplies (such as paper, folders, etc...), software disks, and computer cables. Over the years a bunch of other junks has gotten thrown in there also, like a whole ton of old bills and bank statements. I managed to fill another two garbage bags with stuff from this cabinet. I also managed to fill two storage boxes that will find homes in my new office.
I was also very lucky to find my good dust mask. I'm somewhat allergic to dust. It makes me sneeze, cough, wheeze, and causes my eyes to become very irritated. The mask definitely helped my breathing, and a shower after packing helped my eyes.
Also made some progress on home repairs scheduling. Jet Black will be repairing and seal coating the driveway on Thursday. We also got a quote for fixing the garage door, and Joe is getting another quote for that tomorrow. It will feel like real progress to have those two things completed.
