[livejournal.com profile] rvrjoe775 has a nice write up about the last moments of our dog Kinney's life. It's hard for me to read still. A big thanks to Romeo for going with Joe to the vet.

Here is my attempt to summarize my memories about Kinney.

Kinney was the best dog I've ever had (sorry Gabby). She was loyal and unwavering in her devotion to Joe and I. Sadly she just didn't have genetics on her side. She was always a BIG girl, at one point topping out at 150 pounds (or maybe even a bit higher). More recently she has been around a comfortable 100 pounds, and lower since her diabetes and cancer started. Her weight was probably a factor in her diabetes.

She loved to play catch, though she wasn't always good about bringing the object back. She loved tennis balls, and she loved to rip them apart. She had her favorite rubber bone. She loved to try and catch a frisbee, but more often then not she just chased the frisbee as it rolled along, eventually pouncing on it when it stopped.

She was good about wearing her halloween costumes. She'd put up with the silly witch's hat as long as long as we kept giving her attention and telling her how pretty she looked. But as soon as we stopped, she'd lay down and knock off the hat. She liked to wear her neckerchief when we would take her to the park for Gay Pride.

She always played well with the other dogs at the dog park. She never got into fights, though she would put on a good show if she thought little Gabby was in trouble.

She always had a strange relationship with Gabby. Even though Kinney could have taken the smaller dog down with a couple good bites, she let Gabby think she was the boss.

Kinney loved to rough house with her sister Gwen. These were probably the only times the Kinney didn't have to be careful with her strength. The two of them could tear across the house and jump on each other in a way only two sisters can. Then they would lay on top of each other, licking the other until the were both soaked.

Kinney, proceeded in death by her mother Sasha, and pal Bubba; survived by her loving "dads", her buddy Gabby, and her sisters Gwen and Digger. She will be missed by her many friends.

Joe just called. The airline were hastleing him about not having his passport with him. His understanding was that passports are not required for entering Canada until next year. They did let him on the plane, but he's not sure if he'll have problems when he gets there.
