I had a conversation with another women in local Subway management office last week. Turns out the health code issue is something about needing to maintain the food preparation side free of outside contact. Somehow by putting the food in the plastic bag and handing that over the counter prevents cross contamination. Other restaurants do this by putting the prepared food in a basket and handing that over.

I fail to see why the extra wrapping of paper they already use doesn't fill this requirement.

I asked her who their contact is at the MN Health Department, but she wouldn't provide me with a name. I looked up the Health Department website, but with the current state budget crisis, they are closed. I follow up on this after the state returns to normal. In the mean time, I'll just eat somewhere else.

I've also been trying to find out if the plastic bags are bio-degradable or not. The Subway person didn't know, and I haven't found any good results to Google searches.
