New Atons.net
Aug. 22nd, 2007 05:15 pmFor the past couple of weeks I've been working on building a new website for the Atons. I've built the new site using the open source Joomla content management system. So far this is the biggest Joomla site that I've built.
You can view it at http://www.atons.net. (Warning: This site might be blocked by corporate filters, even though we don't have any real adult content on the site.)
I've managed to at least replace all of the previous functionality of the old Atons site, and in some areas I've improved functionality. The biggest change is that the site now requires users to log in to access some content, and to be able to submit News, events and links.
The next step for me is to introduce some new functionality, such as a PDA/small screen version of the site, a document management application, and a discussion board.
For a while now that Atons have been wanting to move away from using Yahoo Groups. Yahoo Groups have been known to delete groups with out warning, so we want to move away from that service when possible. I'm running into a problem though. I haven't been able to find a Joomla extension that both allows web access to posts, and allows e-mail access. I've found some e-mail list extensions, and some board extensions, but not one that does both. Any suggestions?
