I just noticed this article on Startribune.com about a family which has joined a Compact to not buy anything new for a year.

Funny... I had been thinking of something similar for myself for this year. I was thinking of making a resolution or goal to not buy any big purchases in 2008. Nothing over $150, and this would include buying a bunch of cloths at one time.

I think I'm still going to attempt my goal to keep my shopping simple this year. Yes, this may mean no big gadget purchase this year. (Which is a brave statement one week before the Mac World Expo next week!) The exception would be travel tickets.

I'm making no promises this year, and I'm definitely not ready to join this "nothing new" Compact (I don't think I'm patient enough to buy used comics). But I recognize that I'm a consumer whore and I will change that in 2008.

Actually... I'm not a consumer whore. I know plenty of people who spend much more money on frivolous purchases than I do. But I'm also the less hesitant spouse when it comes to buying something without to much thought.

FJ sent me a link to Fitday.com last night. This is an online tool for tracking food, activities and weight.

You can see how I'm doing here.

I haven't put in weights yet.

Comics

Should I stop collecting comics?

Maybe I could just subscribe to Marvel's Digital Comics Unlimited service, and just read the comics online. I can't tell if this includes new comics or not, but it only costs $4.99 a month (if you pay the $59.88 annual cost up front).

Does DC have anything similar?

This does kind of break my heart a bit... but I really do read comics just for the stories. I don't care as much about collecting the comics, but at the same time I realize that what I'm buying has potential value so I shouldn't just throw them away. I have so many boxes of comics, and it just grows every year.

Then I can go out and buy the trades for the series that I want to have a physical copy off.

Am I being a bad comic fan?

Edit: I found one review that states that only comics that are more than six weeks old will be placed on Marvel's site. The article also wisely recommends to get the monthly subscription rate first before committing to the annual rate.

Just found another recommendation for a good online fitness tracking application:

http://www.thedailyplate.com

I just from a first glance, I like the Daily Plate has some commuity features that Fit Day is missing.
