I woke up to a call this morning from Dad that Mom was in the hospital. She's been having pains recently, but she thought it was the flue or something. Last night it got bad, so Dad finally convinced her to go to the hospital. They ran many tests today, but they don't have a clear answer yet. The initial diagnosis is gallstones and maybe an ulcer. They are going to run more tests tomorrow morning. She's spending the night in the hospital tonight.

Joe and I went to see her and Dad tonight. We got there at 7:30, and were surprise to see Mom and Dad standing right near the elevator. Turns out they were just out for a walk and we had good timing. We went back to her room and chatted about the day for about an hour. We got to meet both her day nurse and her night nurse since we were there during the shift change. Both women seemed very nice and warm to Mom, which I really appreciated.

It's scary when our parents are sick, especially when they need to go to the hospital. I don't think Mom's life is in any immediate danger right now, but it hurts to know that she's been in pain. The tests aren't comfortable, but she was in good spirits when we were there. She's really is a positive person, so I hope she is seeing the tests and eventual treatment as the means to regaining her health, and not as a burden to bear.

I sounds like she will be going home tomorrow after her tests, unless there is some immediate treatment that needs to happen. I hope she is able to sleep well tonight. I'll check in with her tomorrow morning.
