I just saw this report on the scifi.com/scifiwire:

CBS Corp. and Time Warner Inc.'s Warner Brothers on Jan. 24 said they will close their respective UPN and The WB television networks and jointly launch a new network in fall 2006; the new CW network will be a 50-50 joint venture of the two companies, the Reuters news service reported.

Why haven't I heard of this from anywhere else before now. This is kind of major for tv, isn't it?

It took some digging, but here's a link I found over on Yahoo:

I read it on CNN's entertainment section yesterday. Heh, I wonder if anyone will notice the absence of UPN and WB, since their few good shows vanished a long time ago, replaced by a slew of forgettable angsty white teen dramas and black sitcoms.

oops

I heard about it on the FOX9 Morning News this morning. I get about 30 minutes of news, etc., between 5:30 & 6:00AM - they mentioned it three times in that half-hour.

Just broke yesterday, I didn't do picks yesterday due to being uber-busy with site upgrades. Will mention it today, of course. And on the radio this week. 'Cuz yeah, it's *huge* news.

Cause...

You don't read a newspaper, listen to TV news, or subscribe to any news flashes on the Internet? It was all over the place yesterday. ;-)

Given the number of viewers they supposedly had, not really!

I saw it in the Boston Globe this morning. It kind of messes up the station that carried UPN programs.

Someone was quoted in the article as saying we couldn't call it WC... Perhaps Jon Stewart will do that tonight.

Wonder twin powers activate! Form of shitty network. Form of crappy shows!

Veronica Mars and Smallville excepted of course.

So now, in the Twin Cities, not only will WFTC not be Fox Twin Cities, it will be some sort of freakish amalgam of UPN and WB. I wonder if they'll stick with 23 or 29, and what will happen to the other (or will be be a bizarre cross-channel deal like Channel 41).
