Here's a cool but of military tech, The Centaur.

Wow! Maybe they could build a full enclosure around the soldier, including a helmet. The soldier could look out through an eye stalk. Then attach a particle weapon to the torso, and maybe some kind of manipulator arm also, perhaps with a suction cup attachment.

 

I see stairs being a problem though.

I looked at that design and I had to ask myself, who in their right mind ever thought that kneeling would be a comfortable position.

It'd be better if the guy was in a sitting or half-sitting position. Same vehicle footprint.
