We have two rose bushes in our backyard, and I've heard that I have to do something with them with the coming of winter. One friend said I should cut them short and them bury them in leaves before the snow. Another friend said I should bury them in leaves and then cut them short in the spring.

Anyone know what I should do? Thanks.

Try this site: Overwintering Roses (http://www.simplegiftsfarm.com/overwintering-roses.html).

Depends on what kind of rose they are. We have one that we don't have to do anything to as it's winter hardy.

Most need to be buried, which is a pain in the butt (I can't imagine how much work the Lake Harriet rose garden is). A web search should turn up something.

There's a really good website re gardening in MN (maybe at the U of M site) that probably has it covered (I'd track it down myself, but I'm swamped at the moment. If I get a chance to look for it, I'll post a link).

We cut our hybred tea roses back to 10 or 12 inches and then covered them. But this was in St.Louis where the winters weren't as cold. Rarely did it get below zero.
