Weak cable

Ugh... stupid cable tv!

We've been wanting to move the tv out of our bedroom for a while, so today we moved it up to the loft. I had already confirmed that the cable outlet was working, but when I hooked it up to the cable box and tv, it turns out that up there I'm only able to get basic cable, up to channel 99.

Any one have an idea why this could be? The other cable connections in the house work fine.

I think it might be because the cable is split to many times on the second floor. The cable comes into the house, is split in the basement to internet and tv, then split again on a four way splitter to theater, bedroom, kitchen, and 2nd floor. On the second floor it is split again to each of the bedrooms and the loft. This might just be to many times for the poor cable signal to maintain cohesion. Is there any way to strengthen the signal?

Call the cable company...

I already did that. They reset and reauthorized the box, but no luck. They are sending out a tech next Saturday.

You might have to take some splits out, or see if you can get a signal amplifier. I had the same problem when I was living in my four-flat house in Dearborn: There were so many splitters in the box where the cable came into the house that the signal was too weak to support my Internet connection. The tech was kind enough to run a separate line for every flat from the pole, removing all of the splitters. The connection was outstanding after that.

I know that's not your situation, but all the splits are probably the problem.
