drewan: (Champions Online)
I've been playing the new super hero theme MMORG called Champions Online since last Friday. That's when they started the three-day pre-order head start. The game officially launched on Monday.

This game comes from Cryptic, the folks who originally developed City of Heroes before they sold it off to NC Soft. The game feels a lot like City of Heroes, but there are significant differences for me.

The biggest difference is that when I select my characters powers I'm not limited to one specific power tree. I can choose from the wide range of possible powers, which allows a player to create many unique and interesting power sets. Of course, there are bonuses for selecting related bowers, but they aren't hard limits like in CoH.

The similarity with CoH is also throwing me off a bit. My first couple of days I was struggling with using the map and chat system. They are a bit different than CoH and I was having trouble finding my missions. I have since figured it out.

I've been having fun rolling new characters. Here's my list so far:

Money Prince: http://www.champions-online.com/character_profiles/194934
Mind Bender: http://www.champions-online.com/character_profiles/329485
Harley: http://www.champions-online.com/character_profiles/343371

I just rolled Mind Bender and Harley last night. I really like them so far.

I fear that Monkey Prince may be unplayable. I picked his power solely to fit the character concept. Which means his travel power is acrobatics. Ugh... while its a cool travel power, it is slow and difficult to go around mobs. I might have to respec him if I can.
