All kilts are skirts. It's part of the definition (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=define%3Akilt&btnG=Google+Search). Kilts and Utilikilts are subclasses of skirts, inheriting many of their properties but having their own unique design and methods.

Plus, they look cool. And the pockets... oh the pockets. I can fit a 2-liter in the side pockets on my utilikilt.
