Film and Reels

Joe and I went to see The Kids Are All Right at the Uptown Theater last night with the Minneapolis Movie Bears. It was a nice enough movie, but there was a little to much cliche Lesbian couple bullshit. I guess it's not possible to have a good movie about a happy and stable queer couple.
Tonight I'm getting back to transferring my family' s Super 8 film to mini DV tape. I started this last Thursday at the Edina Art Center, and made it through 17 of the 54 reels of film that I have. If I can get through at least 20 tonight, then I should be able to finish all the reels in my reserved time tonight and tomorrow.
FYI: Edina Art Center's Media Arts Sudio has equipment to transfer 8mm and Super 8 film to miniDV and DVDs (M-Th, noon to 8pm). For members of the Center, the cost is $25 and hour for DVD transfer (DVD media provided), and $23 for miniDV, but you have to provide the tapes. While there is no clean up or color correction service, I found that this is MUCH MUCH cheaper and reasonable than paying a service to do this. Of course, you can't just drop off a box of reels and have them do it. You have to load the reels, play each one in real time as it's recorded on the DVD or miniDV, rewind the completed reel and then load the next one. The fun part is that you can watch everything that's playing on a monitor and relive your past in the privacy of the recording booth.
As I was transferring a few reels from 1974 when my family went to Disney, I had to text my sister and say "what the hell were you wearing at Disney in 1974!"

Date: 2010-07-28 03:26 pm (UTC)It stuck me after that I know more gay guys then lesbians so at first it really stood out to me to be watching two women in family life on a screen but by the end I wasn't focused on that.
And in the end I think they demonstrated they were a pretty stable family who was likely to survive the bullshit.
