Muscle Milk
Feb. 3rd, 2006 10:53 amLast week I finally bit the bullet and bought some protein powder. The trainer I've been consulting with recommended this months ago, but for some reason I was intimidated the thought of taking protein supplements. I think I was fearing the weightlifter stereotype.
Now, after using CytoSport's Muscle Milk for a week and a half, I really wish I'd been using this stuff since last summer!
I'm feeling so much better in the days following my workouts. Before the supplement, my muscles would really ache for two or three days after. Now I'm not feeling much in the way of aches at all. It's like I'm finally giving my body what it needs to rebuild the muscles, so it's not hurting as much.
Usually, after my Wednesday leg routines, I'm limping a bit on Thursday and Friday. This week I even pushed myself hard on my leg exercises, but I'm walking just fine now.
I don't know if my body would respond this way to all protein supplements, or if its really this specific product that's helping me. CytoSport is really pushing their "EvoPro" type of proteins. One thing that strikes me as slightly gross in this product's marketing is all the comparisons to mother's milk. Yeah, I realize that its probably a great thing... but having never been raised on mother's milk (adopted, so bottle fed), I have no personal connection to mother's milk being a good thing. Besides... mother's milk equals breasts, and being a gay man that's very scary! (JUST KIDDING!). Still, the product is great, so I'll get past my uncomfortableness with the references to mother's milk.
Beyond the benefit to my body... this stuff actually tastes okay! I've been drinking this stuff as a shake (2 scoops with 12 oz. of water) twice a day, after working out and before bed. I tried it last night with skim milk instead of water, but it didn't taste as good, so I'll go back to water.
So far I've just been using the Chocolate flavored shake, but it looks like they have a lot of flavors out there. I bought my first container at the gym, but I think I can find cheaper prices online.
I keep accidentally typing the company name as CryptoSport... which sounds like something
minnehaha would play.
